THREE CHEERS FOR CHRISTIAN NATIONALISM

Introduction

I know I’m a little late to the party, but I thought I would document my official position in print. And since only 7 of you read this blog, I think I will be safe. So don’t pass it on and ruin my stealth (but go ahead and pass it on). Well here goes. My syllogism and promotion of Christian Nationalism.

First Things

The premise that I begin with is the first principle and premise of existence: In the beginning God. There is a God in the heavens who created all things. And, being the Creator, He is the sole Designer and Definer of terms, purposes, history, heights of mountains, and courses of all rivers. And this God, who is the Triune, rules over not just the heavens, but the earth as well. “The earth is the Lord’s and the fullness thereof, the world and those who dwell therein,” (Psalm 24:1). This would include all earthly rulers as well. “The king’s heart is a stream of water in the hand of the Lord; He turns it wherever He will,” (Proverbs 21:1). One more thing, these earthly rulers are in their position of authority by His decree and must govern according to supreme and ultimate authority. “For there is no authority except from God, and those that exist have been instituted by God,” (Romans 13:1).

Not Whether, But Which

Pair this with the second premise. Man is fallen and a central lust of fallen man is to be as gods or goddesses. Thus the inescapable concept. There is a God in heaven, ruling over heaven and earth, fallen man hates that God and wants to usurp Him or replace Him with someone or something more accommodating to man’s fallen lusts. This is why, if you look hard enough, and it isn’t that hard after all, you will always find that there is always a god or gods over the people. The question is never whether, but which. Which god or goddess or God stands as man’s authority? Last point here: Every god, goddess, or God rules and shapes the people. Therefore there is no individual, family, community, or nation-state that does not arrange their lives according to the god, goddess, or God of the people. Again, not whether, but which.

The Seven Point Syllogism

Here is my argument for why Rwanda should embrace Christian Nationalism, and Norway and Ireland also. And I would lump in Canada as well. For my own reasons, I have a particular heart for these nations.

1. There is a god or God above every state.

2. Every state organizes itself, its laws, defines justice, values customs, shares virtues, etc. according to its gods’ or God’s law, design, and desires.

3. There is only One, True, Living, Loving, Good, Holy, and Gracious God.

4. Therefore all nation-states should have that God as their God, and do so expressly.

5. And having the God and Father of the Lord Jesus Christ as God, every nation should organize itself, its laws, define its justice, value its customs, share its virtues, etc. according to His cosmic and gracious authority.

6. That will be a reality for any and all nations in so far as the hearts of the populous are regenerated by the Spirit of God through the means of the Gospel, preached and proclaimed and loved.

7. Regenerate hearts lead to transformed lives and households, which leads to transformed communities, businesses, schools, courts, recreation centers, arts, media, etc., and transformed polity as well.

In Conclusion

That is my understanding of Christian Nationalism. And this is my prayer for every nation under the sun (and Son). Therefore, Christians of every nation, mine included, it’s time to get to work!
